My response here
If I were the DSE student, I would strive to achieve the highest possible grade in English Language instead of Chinese Language, in that the marks required for the former is much higher. It is possible to obtain 9x% or above in English Language (and you really need this overall score for an A), but the same is virtually impossible for Chinese Language - over 75% may stand a chance already.
The normal average scores of language subjects are presented as follows:
E: around 3x~40% ( for BOTH Chinese and English ) *40 for both is safe
D: 5x% ( Chinese: ~50% English: 50%+ ) *55 for both is safe
C: 6x% ( Chinese: ~60% English: 65%+ ) *6x, 7x is safe
B: 7x% ( Chinese: ~70% English: 75%+ ) *7x, 8x is safe
A: 8x% ( Chinese: ~80% English: 85%+ ) *8x, 9x is safe
